Michigan edges toward school phone restrictions

• Students would still be able to use their devices between classes and during lunch.
• There are exceptions for "basic" phones lacking internet access, medical needs and emergencies.

What's next: Last week's bipartisan House vote (99-10) clears a pathway for the bill to land on Whitmer's desk for final approval before her Feb. 25 State of the State address.
