Spanish-inspired Antidote opening on Jefferson

Spanish-inspired dinner and brunch restaurant Antidote Detroit opens Monday.
Why it matters: Antidote landed in a noteworthy spot — Jefferson Avenue on the border between Detroit's Jefferson Chalmers neighborhood and Grosse Pointe Park.
- It replaces Norma G's, a prominent Caribbean restaurant that closed in 2023.
State of play: This is the second restaurant from developer and business owner Nya Marshall of Ivy Kitchen and Cocktails, also located on Jefferson on the east side.
What they're saying: Marshall says she wants to bridge the historically separated communities that Antidote straddles.
- "We need to bridge that and merge that so we can all come together to make the entire corridor, including beyond Jefferson Chalmers, more than what it is," she tells Axios.
- "Food brings people together … We're more alike than we are separate."
Context: She said it's important that her restaurants help the communities around them, drawing in new activity.
- She hopes that Antidote can do that in Jefferson Chalmers, an area where larger developments have struggled to get off the ground.
Dig in: Under executive chef Kirby Rocha, Antidote will bring Spanish flavors into everyday foods, per Marshall.
- Some of her favorite dishes are the mussels and chorizo in cider, truffle potato pavé, saffron potato leek quiche and Basque French toast.
If you go: Antidote, at 14628 E. Jefferson Ave., will be open 4–10pm Tuesday–Thursday, 4pm–midnight Friday, 11am–midnight Saturday and 11–4pm Sunday.
