Heating outage hits Oakland University

Oakland University students and faculty are dealing with no heat at 21 buildings as the semester comes to a close.

Why it matters: The heating outage closed three dormitories for the semester and forced some classes to move to alternate facilities. Instructors were encouraged to make classes remote, the Free Press reports.

State of play: The steam system that heats most of campus is dealing with multiple leaks, officials told the Freep.

Repairs are expected to last until at least Dec. 11.

What's next: Meadow Brook Theatre, one of the affected buildings, will resume productions today with the help of temporary heat.

Fall commencements on Dec. 12 and 13 are expected to occur as scheduled.
