Detroit punches ticket to ALDS after 6-3 win

The Tigers' bats finally woke up in their series-clinching 6-3 win today against the Cleveland Guardians.

Why it matters: Detroit eliminated Cleveland and advanced to play the Seattle Mariners in the best-of-five American League Division Series.

Driving the news: After struggling mightily to score runs Wednesday in Game 2, the Tigers exploded for four runs in the sixth inning to take a commanding 6-1 lead.

Between the lines: The series win over Cleveland was a bit of revenge for Detroit, which finished second to the Guardians in the AL Central after a historic late-season collapse.

The intrigue: Advancing in the playoffs also means that Detroit will finally get a home playoff game. (All three wild card series games were in Cleveland.)

Comerica Park will host Game 3 of the ALDS on Tuesday and Game 4 (if necessary) on Wednesday.

What's next: Game 1 is Saturday at T-Mobile Park.
