Whitmer: Michiganders "cannot keep living" with gun violence

• The suspected shooter, named by officers as Thomas Jacob Sanford, 40, drove his vehicle through the front doors of the church before opening fire during a service, per Grand Blanc Township Police Chief William Renye.
• Investigators believe the suspect deliberately set the fire.

The latest: The investigation and scene examination are ongoing, officials said. The FBI has interviewed more than 100 victims and witnesses.

• All people have now been accounted for from the fire, Renye said.
• Also, a 21-year-old is in custody after allegedly trying to drive through a barricade near the church on Monday, the Free Press reports. Police are investigating whether the incident is related.

What they're saying: "As a state, we know the pain of this too well. We've seen gun violence in our schools, stores, parades, festivals and our houses of worship," Whitmer said during a news conference Monday with public safety officials. "These are places that we go to feel connected. To feel safe, to be together."

• "I know this community is reeling right now. And I want you to know that the state of Michigan has your back. Your grief is our grief."

Plus: Whitmer cautioned that speculation about the gunman's potential motive is unhelpful and "can be downright dangerous."
