Frame Work: Poster art a reflection of culture, history

• Posters are not just glued bits of paper to later be torn off a telephone poll — they reflect culture, history and identity.

State of play: The poster art displayed revolves around music, movies, social justice and politics.

• It comes mostly from local groups' collections, including Signal Return, Wayne State, 1xRun and the Black Canon.
• L.A.-based Poster Territory offers an international perspective on subjects like the environment and the war in Ukraine.

What they're saying: "To me, posters are an invitation, an entry point for people to fall in love with art and even begin collecting," Scarab gallery manager Donna Jackson said in a statement.

If you go: The free exhibition runs until Oct. 5 at 217 Farnsworth St. Gallery hours are 2-9pm Thursdays and noon-5pm Fridays-Sundays.

• Visit from 6-8pm Wednesday for a presentation from Es-pranza Humphrey, an assistant curator at the Poster House, a New York City museum. Suggested $10 donation.
• Humphrey will preview an upcoming Poster House exhibition with Black Canon, a local organization preserving Black literary, visual and other arts.
