Your newest locally owned spot for coffee, pastries and WiFi is the Mug in Detroit's Piety Hill neighborhood.

The vibe: The small café with tables and couches for working — plus a patio — emanates a neighborly atmosphere, with chatting and names exchanged.

Dig in: The menu is simple and effective with high-quality, affordable housemade pastries (around $3-$4.50), coffee, tea and lattes. Stay a while and get unlimited coffee refills in a mug for $3.

Iced drinks "for here" are served in a cute glass cup with lid and straw.

If you go: The Mug, 8747 Second Ave., is open 8am-1pm weekdays.
