Pistons' offseason begins with search for scoring

The Pistons' short-lived playoff return exposed the team's need for another major talent to play alongside superstar Cade Cunningham.

The big picture: The team's second-leading scorer next season — presumably behind Cunningham — could be a younger player already on the roster, such as Ausar Thompson, or a player who could be added this summer via trade or free agency.

Driving the news: Trajan Langdon, the Pistons' top executive, was noncommittal on Detroit's preference at the team's season-end press conference Wednesday, MLive reported.

What they're saying: "Do we add another person or do we just build from within? And again, like I said before, we'll look at all avenues and decide what the best avenue is for us," he said.

Catch up quick: Detroit won 30 more games than last season and made the playoffs this year for the first time since 2019.

The Knicks eliminated Detroit 4-2 in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.

What's next: The NBA draft lottery, a key date on the NBA offseason calendar, is Monday before the conference semifinals on ESPN.
