Downtown Detroit sushi at Soraya

The vibe: Very similar to Maru, another Asian restaurant that occupied the same space for seven years before it closed in September.

What to try: The lunch menu sticks to classics such as California, avocado cucumber and shrimp tempura rolls. The dinner menu has more complex (and expensive) signature rolls.

• I ordered the spicy roll combo with a spicy California and a spicy tuna roll ($15). The combo comes with miso soup, but I substituted the house salad for a $2 upcharge.

The verdict: Attentive service and solid sushi at a decent price for downtown.
