Animal exhibition opens at inclusive studio in Detroit

• It's on display now through April 19 at the Lantern building at 9301 Kercheval Ave., Suite 2.

Context: PASC supports artists with developmental disabilities and mental health differences, helping build careers and independence in their artistic pursuits. It offers open studio space, materials and advisers.

• It's a program under the nonprofit Services to Enhance Potential and has held dozens of exhibitions for its members since it was created in 2021. It has locations in Detroit, Southgate and Westland.

The latest: "Wild Things" is the third in a series of exhibitions curated by PASC artists supported by a two-year, $20,000 National Endowment for the Arts grant, PASC program manager Anthony Marcellini tells Axios.

• The three curators — Mandy Demorest, Detroit Angel Tweety and John Peterson — collected work that connects the human world with the animal kingdom, comparing nature with our built world.
• Artists also wrote poems that were projected and traced onto the walls.

What they're saying: PASC's Detroit studio and gallery, which opened last May, has about 20 to 25 artists working in it per day, with about 70 total working there per week, Marcellini estimates. Overall, PASC works with more than 190 artists per week.
