More than 750 U.S. national park workers have been fired amid the Trump administration's purge of federal employees, including in Michigan, per an unofficial tally shared with Axios by a park ranger.
Why it matters: The firings have left fewer workers to do critical jobs ahead of the busy summer travel season, including lifesaving search-and-rescue missions.
The big picture: Rocky Mountain National Park was among those hit hardest, with 12 of 253 full-time workers terminated, and California parks lost at least 84 employees.
Zoom in: Michigan's parks saw fewer terminations, though its parks also have fewer total workers:
Isle Royale saw one person fired out of about 45 full-time employees.
Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore: two of 35.
Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore: two of 87.
Keweenaw National Historical Park: Unknown.
River Raisin National Battlefield Park: Unknown.
North Country National Scenic Trail: one of five.
Reality check: The spreadsheet, based on reports from hundreds of workers in online groups, is a crowdsourced effort, so it is likely incomplete.
