Mayor Mike Duggan underscored his ability to stubbornly persevere until the job gets done while speaking at an Axios event in D.C. yesterday.
The big picture: Duggan and a JPMorgan Chase executive who visits Detroit often, Peter Scher, reflected on the more than decade-long partnership between the mayor and the bank that has invested $200 million in the city.
The mayor would regularly prod JPMorgan Chase to open a call center in Detroit — "less than polite," Scher said.
"(JP Morgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon) finally got so tired of me saying 'When are you guys going to do this?' that he told Peter to solve it," Duggan said.
Duggan also weighed in on his choice to run for governor as an independent while speaking offstage with Axios co-founder Mike Allen.
"There's no doubt that Detroit's recovery came from dropping the us vs. them politics and working together," Duggan said. "... I think what's held the state back is the terrible partisan division in Lansing."
