The elimination of Windsor's bus service to Detroit is part of our Canadian neighbor's ongoing budget deliberations.
Why it matters: The tunnel bus operates seven days a week and offers an affordable way for both Canadians and Detroiters to cross the border if they don't have a car or don't feel like driving. The fare is $10 each way.
State of play: Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens' budget proposal includes a $1.4 million cut to Transit Windsor to help deal with inflation, the Windsor Star reported.
What they're saying: A shorter route with fewer Detroit stops has been suggested as a compromise.
"Maybe it's just we drop you off at the RenCen and then we pick you up, because they still have two, three, or four stops in Detroit," Windsor City Councillor Mark McKenzie said, CTV Windsor reported yesterday.
Worthy of your time: Transportation Riders United, a local transit nonprofit, posted this account last summer of a Metro Detroiter's trip to Windsor on the tunnel bus.
What's next: Windsor's council will deliberate the budget on Jan. 27, per the Star.
