Detroit Auto Show returns this week in familiar January time slot

• The show moved to September after the pandemic to drum up interest alongside outdoor activities and other attractions. But back-to-school conflicts and football season dimmed interest.

Zoom in: This year's public show starts Saturday and runs through Jan. 20 at Huntington Place.

• Other programs on the schedule include Friday's charity preview, a mobility global forum on Jan. 15-16 and the Detroit Grand Prix's racing day on Jan. 17.

State of play: The show features more than 30 brands, from the Detroit Three to the ultraluxury Rolls-Royce and Aston Martin.

• Visitors can ride in vehicles on the show's four indoor test tracks: Camp Jeep, Bronco Mountain, Grand Prix and EV experience tracks.

What they're saying: "Frankly, I was never a fan of moving it. I was opposed to it," Claude Molinari, president and CEO of Visit Detroit, told the News. "As a spokesperson for the hospitality community, my stakeholders, the restaurant owners, the hoteliers, they all are very in favor of this. This is a great return to tradition."
