The red-hot Lions take on the hobbled Houston Texans Sunday night on national TV.

The big picture: Detroit (7-1) has the best record in the NFC after dusting the Packers last week at Lambeau Field.

Sunday's matchup at NRG Stadium will be the Lions' second straight road game.
The schedule then eases up with games in the next two weeks against the Jaguars (2-7) and at the Colts (4-5).

State of play: The Lions made a big trade this week for defensive lineman Za'Darius Smith.

His status for Sunday's game will be decided after he joins the team today, per the Free Press.

The other side: After entering the season as a darkhorse Super Bowl contender, the Texans have struggled on offense with key injuries to wide receivers Nico Collins and Stefon Diggs.
