Detroit Riverfront Conservancy hires new audit firm

Between the lines: The conservancy has not said why it's switching auditing firms.

• However, the federal theft charges against former CFO William A. Smith have resulted in several significant organizational changes, including hiring Ryan Sullivan as interim CEO.

State of play: Plante Moran will work on the upcoming audit and tax return filing, conservancy spokesperson Marc Pasco told Axios in an email.

• Plante was selected after the conservancy's audit committee contacted numerous firms through an RFP process, he said.

What they're saying: Plante Moran was selected for its technical audit and tax expertise, experience with nonprofit clients and local ties, Pasco says.

• The firm is headquartered in Southfield and has nine other locations throughout the state, including inside downtown's One Campus Martius building.
• A spokesperson for Plante Moran declined to comment, citing the company's policy not to discuss client matters.
