Tigers stun Guardians in dramatic Game 2 victory

These Tigers won't quit.

After eight scoreless innings, the Tigers exploded for three runs in the top of the ninth to beat the Cleveland Guardians, 3-0, Monday in Game 2 of the ALDS at Progressive Field.

Why it matters: The series is now tied at one game apiece as Detroit comes home for Game 3 Wednesday at Comerica Park.

A loss would have left them one game from elimination in the best-of-five series.

Driving the news: With two men on, outfielder Kerry Carpenter cranked a slider from Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase into the right field seats.

"I blacked out after I hit it," Carpenter joked in a postgame interview on TBS. "It felt great."

Between the lines: Ace Tarik Skubal pitched a gem for Detroit, throwing seven scoreless innings with eight strikeouts and only three hits surrendered.

What's next: Game 3 is Wednesday at 3:08pm at Comerica Park. TBS is televising.
