New home for old Fox Theatre seats with Detroit nonprofit

The Ilitch Cos., owner of the Tigers and Little Caesars, is donating the old seats from its Fox Theatre downtown to a local nonprofit as the theater undergoes an interior revamp.

The big picture: Life Remodeled is using 700 seats from the Fox for an auditorium in its under-construction east-side neighborhood hub, Anchor Detroit, according to the nonprofit.

Catch up quick: Life Remodeled is known for repurposing a vacant school on the west side into the Durfee Innovation Society, a building housing dozens of nonprofits and public space that opened in 2018.

Last year, Life Remodeled bought the former Winans Academy of Performing Arts in the east side's Denby neighborhood and is building out a second hub there.

What they're saying: "This renewed auditorium will provide a prestigious platform for local talent while attracting diverse audiences seeking high-quality entertainment options," Life Remodeled wrote in a letter scheduled to be sent to supporters this week.

"When not being used for first-class events, it will be a place for young people and community members to learn the craft of performing arts."
