Lil Wayne headlines Afro Nation Detroit festival this weekend

State of play: Afro Nation starts at 2pm Saturday at the Douglass site, near Brush Park.

• Weekend passes are $99 plus a booking fee, or you can purchase Saturday or Sunday day passes for $70 plus the fee. VIP tickets are sold out.
• Saturday's performances include Rema, Kash Doll and Uncle Waffles.
• Lil Wayne, PARTYNEXTDOOR, local artist Donavan Glover and others perform Sunday.

Between the lines: The former Brewster-Douglass public housing projects were demolished in 2013. Motown icons such as Diana Ross and Smokey Robinson once lived there.

• In 2019, HUD approved the property's sale to an affiliate of Dan Gilbert's Bedrock for $23 million.
• The site was also used for last year's festival.

Zoom out: Lil Wayne isn't the only hip-hop star performing here soon. Missy Elliott's first headlining tour comes to Little Caesars Arena on Thursday.
