A Michigan Supreme Court ruling yesterday paves the way for a minimum wage hike in February, the Detroit News reports.
Why it matters: The new minimum wage likely will be about $12.50 an hour, up from the current $10.33 hourly rate.
The tipped minimum wage is expected to go from $3.93 an hour to about $6 an hour.
A Michigan Chamber of Commerce representative predicted that the rising labor costs will force restaurants and other hospitality businesses to make deep cuts elsewhere.
