Howdy, folks! Sam here. When Detroiters are in need of tender, flavorful chicken shawarma, they go to Al-Ameer.
The intrigue: The Dearborn staple has consistently served some of the area's best chicken shawarma for the last 20 years — at least according to my friend Torin, who grew up and still lives minutes away from the location on West Warren Avenue.
We sat down inside and he ordered a shawarma sandwich for the road while we shared the Al-Ameer platter ($44), which includes more shawarma, tawook kabob, beef kafta with hummus and fattoush salad.
