Welcome to our suburban spotlight on news outside the city.
Biking the news: New bike lanes on Woodward Avenue in Ferndale are being installed as part of the city's "road diet."
- Work on pavement markings and tubular delineators to divide bikes from vehicular traffic will largely be finished this month, according to MDOT.
Why it matters: Traffic lanes in both directions from 8 Mile to I-696 have been reduced for more than a year while construction crews resurfaced the two-mile stretch and fixed up sidewalks and drainage infrastructure.
- The project's cost is estimated at $8.8 million.
What's next: Remaining work will be finished next year after contractors take their seasonal break.
