Democrats retain control of Polk County Board of Supervisors

Driving the news: Democrat Heather Jones-Brown defeated Republican Alyson DeMoss in District 4, receiving 19,680 votes (62.3%) to DeMoss' 11,861 (37.5%), according to unofficial results from the Polk County Auditor's Office.

• Democrats John Forbes and Izaah Knox were unopposed and won seats on Tuesday, preserving their party's 3-2 majority.
• Republicans Jill Altringer and Mark Holm were not up for reelection and will remain on the board through 2028.

State of play: Several longtime Democrats were swept out or stepped aside this year amid years of county controversies, including board chair Matt McCoy, who tells Axios that a deputy administrator's lawsuit against him contributed to his loss in the Democratic primary.

What's next: The newly elected supervisors will take office in January.
