New frozen cocktail and nacho bar opening in East Village

• The nearly 4,000-square-foot bar will be in the same new apartment building as The Breakfast Club.
• It will also include a 1,200-square-foot, dog-friendly patio with fire pits.

How it started: Angelyn Chleborad grew up in Urbandale and discovered Narwhal's while attending Saint Louis University near Narwhal's original location.

• After working in hospitality in Des Moines, including three years at Lua Brewing, she decided to open her own business.

The menu: Narwhal's will have a rotating menu of around 14 frozen cocktails made from scratch with real fruit, Chleborad says. Prices start at $9.75 for 12 ounces.

• Drinks include boozy chocolate mudslides, dragon fruit vodka tonics and seasonal drinks like a pumpkin spice white Russian.
• Beyond drinks, they'll also have a food menu centered on over-the-top nachos, including smash burger and crab rangoon-inspired recipes between $10 and $12.

Plus: Any nacho combination can turn into a rice bowl or salad.

• They'll also serve seasonal hot cocktails and nonalcoholic smoothies.
• A daily happy hour is also planned.

What's next: The bar is expected to open this winter.
