The recently opened LUX Asian Restaurant and Bar is bringing Asian fare and a swanky cocktail-bar vibe to Waukee.
Why it matters: It gives the Grand Prairie Parkway corridor another destination as restaurants and retail follow Waukee's rapid growth.
🌊 The latest: LUX temporarily closed last week after a faulty thermostat in the hood system triggered its fire-suppression system, flooding the restaurant.
- Staff spent three days cleaning and repairing the space, and it has now reopened.
Catch up quick: LUX opened in August, founded by three Vietnamese friends who formed LTJ Group after working in a nail salon business.
- Chef Raelynn Brockman's résumé includes Harbinger, HomeGrown and Cafe Trellis, local food reporter Wini Moranville reports.
On my plate: I went small — and loved all three.
- Scallion pancakes ($8) with crisp-edged chili crunch and sweet soy.
- Chargrilled beef lemongrass skewers ($9).
- Mama's Classic Egg Rolls ($8), golden-fried and served with nuoc cham — a sweet-salty Vietnamese dipping sauce.
