Urbandale is one step closer to gaining a ZIP code

Urbandale is a step closer to getting its own ZIP code.

Why it matters: Residents and businesses near the city's limits have experienced missing packages and mail delays due to postal and ZIP code problems.

Driving the news: U.S. Sen. Joni Ernst's bipartisan bill requiring the U.S. Postal Service to designate a unique ZIP code to Urbandale and 82 other cities in the country passed a Senate Committee on Thursday.

Now, it advances to the full Senate for consideration.

What they're saying: "Today's vote brings residents of Urbandale and communities across the country one step closer to ending years of delayed and misdirected mail caused by ZIP code boundary disputes," Ernst said in a statement.
