Uncontested primary elections in the Des Moines metro's congressional race don't make it an exciting one to watch tomorrow, but it's still one of the state's most important races.
Why it matters: Iowa's 3rd District, represented by Republican U.S. Rep. Zach Nunn, is expected to be among the state's top battlegrounds again.
The likely matchup: Nunn is expected to face Democratic state Sen. Sarah Trone Garriott in November.
Between the lines: Tomorrow's primary is less about suspense and more about setting the table for months of ads, national attention and Des Moines-area voter outreach.
What we're watching: Whether the race stays centered on local issues — costs, schools, abortion and federal spending — or gets nationalized quickly.
