Linh here! I'm trying to grow a giant pumpkin in the hopes of showing it at the Iowa State Fair this summer.
- Aptly, my pumpkin is named Hope. (And I am growing Hope #2, just in case.)
State of play: After planting the seeds on Easter, the pumpkins have rapidly grown and graduated to gallon buckets this week.
- They'll be ready to go into the ground by Mother's Day.
😵💫 Yes, but: I am not ready.
The problem: The best spot for them with the most sunlight is in my backyard.
- And in front of my yard is this lovely deck that I enjoy 99% of the time. I see squirrels! I drink mojitos! But I don't know how to transport a giant pumpkin over this!
The other problem is that I live on a hill. This never bothered me, except in the case of transporting a giant pumpkin.
- Depending on the size, I'll potentially need a forklift to carry my big gourd. But I don't know how to get it up a hill and then over a deck.
