With a 2-year-old daughter at home, no mornings are the same for Des Moines Public Schools Chairperson Kim Martorano.
Driving the news: As the head of the state's largest school district, she tells Axios that the mornings are a time for her to check in, do some breathing exercises, and meditate before her daughter wakes up.
Then she heads into work as an information systems specialist for Johnston schools.
"This morning was a day where she wanted snuggles, and it was lovely," Martorano says. "Not every morning is like that. Sometimes a book will win."
Here's how Martorano starts her day:
⏰Wake up: 5am.
🍳Breakfast: Black coffee with chia pudding or overnight oats.
📱 What she's reading: Text messages, Twitter, Iowa Public Radio and the Google News app.
💡 Advice for organizing her day-to-day: "My biggest tip is lean into asking for help."
