The dining room and a concha at Café con Leche ($3). Photos: Linh Ta/Axios
Linh here! I stopped by Café con Leche in Des Moines' east side the other day for a quick coffee pick-me-up.
What I got: A large café con miel (coffee with honey, $6), and a vanilla concha ($3) — a sweet bread pastry.
What I liked: Conchas are a popular Mexican sweet bread often eaten along with morning coffee. They have a fun design that resembles a seashell on top.
In comparison to American breakfast pastries, they're only mildly sweet — something I appreciate.
The aesthetic inside the diner is also so cute, and definitely worth eating inside.
If you go: 8am-3pm, every day at 2905 Hubbell Ave., Des Moines.
