"I am hopeful, prayerful, and optimistic that there will be a path for me to stay here and continue inspiring and having an indelible impact."
— Former DMPS Superintendent Ian Roberts wrote in a message from jail to The New York Times
On Sept. 26, the day former DMPS Superintendent Ian Roberts was detained by ICE, he was heading to Windsor Elementary to participate in the school's fun run.
In correspondence from jail with reporters from The New York Times, Roberts described his plans for that day, mentioning a second grader by name at the school.
What they're saying: "I want him to keep practicing his reading and running," Roberts wrote. "We will race when I see him again."
