Barista's Bouquet, a West Des Moines coffee and flower shop, is expanding into a second location at 3837 N. 121st St. in Urbandale.
What's new: The 2,800-square-foot space includes a kitchen, giving owners Stacey and Brandt Carlson space to make their own pastries and lunch items.
- Their larger shop will have more seating, and a kids' play area with a mini coffee shop and flower arranging station.
- "It's humbling, to be honest," Stacey tells Axios. "I'm just really excited and proud of what we've built here."
How it started: Before opening their first shop, Brandt worked as a general manager in restaurants and Stacey as a pastry chef.
- After their first child, Stacey stayed home and got into flower arranging as a side gig.
- In 2020, Brandt got into coffee, especially being at home with two young kids, he jokes.
They decided to put their passions together and opened Barista's Bouquet off Ashworth Road in June 2024, offering indoor plants, flower arrangements and coffee in the same shop.
- The coffee business gave the parents more flexibility with their young children, as they didn't have to work late nights at restaurants.
The menu: They'll continue offering their coffees with homemade syrups at their new location, plus baked goods utilizing Stacey's pastry background.
- Highlights include a Daisy Danish made out of brioche dough, homemade cream cheese and a fresh fruit compote.
- She'll also make cinnamon rolls, muffins, hoagies, breakfast sandwiches, and a gluten-free blueberry lemon cardamom muffin.
What they're saying: None of Stacey's food items will contain nuts, especially since their son has an allergy.
What's next: The Urbandale shop is expected to open next month.
