The Big Ten conference and Abbott are hosting a blood donation competition with NFL legend Drew Brees — and it could lead to a $1 million donation to support student or community health at the University of Iowa.
Why it matters:Most blood centers in the Midwest (where most Big Ten schools are located) have a blood supply of less than three days.
How it works: The school that drives the most blood donations during the 2025 football season will receive the money.
Students, alumni and fans can donate blood on behalf of any of the 18 member schools at blood centers across the country.
The winning university will be announced at the Big Ten football championship Game on Dec. 6.
State of play: UI already has over 470 donors as of late yesterday.
