A Dutch artist internationally recognized for his hyper-realistic, large-scale street art will create a mural in the coming weeks on the side of the parking garage in downtown Des Moines that offers augmented reality (AR) views.
Why it matters: The mural by Leon Keer at 901 Grand Ave. will launch a citywide art initiative featuring AR works by local artists, Alexa McCarthy, director of the Greater Des Moines Public Art Foundation, told the DSM City Council last month.
Catch up quick: Keer's project is a collaboration between the Greater Des Moines Public Art Foundation and Principal Financial Group.
- When viewers hover their phone cameras over the mural using the foundation's app, portions of the artwork will animate.
The intrigue: McCarthy didn't reveal what the DSM mural will depict.

What's next: The Foundation is hosting an Oct. 12 dinner event with Keer.
