Linh here. I visited Tous Les Jours, West Des Moines' newest French-Korean bakery, yesterday.
State of play: The bakery opened in the Jordan Creek Point development just north of Scheel's last week. There are locations nationwide, including in Omaha and Kansas City.
How it works: Grab a tray, line it with paper and pick out whatever you want from the display cases!
- At the moment, they're operating under temporary hours (8am-5pm) as they figure out staffing.
What I ate: Just a little bit of everything! Some standouts were the kimchi croquette ($3.50), Portuguese egg tart ($2.95), and iced matcha latte ($5.25).
Between the lines: I got a croissant ($3.25), which was the easiest thing for me to judge compared to other shops.
- It tasted better than a Costco croissant and was on par with La Mie.
Reality check: Des Moines loves its franchises. So be aware that their goods may be sold out by the end of the day.
My thought bubble: All of the Asian foods I used to hunt for while traveling are finally here — bubble tea, Korean BBQ and now this?
