Des Moines to consider $42 million in housing projects

Four housing projects with a price tag of more than $42 million will be considered by the Des Moines City Council on Monday night.
Why it matters: Most of the 133 apartments would be designated as affordable housing, which is lacking throughout the metro.
State of play: Monday's council would approve preliminary project terms with at least $4.4 million in city incentives.
- The timelines and total costs of some of the projects are being finalized, but the projects are generally expected to be completed by 2028.
Newbury Commons, 401 SE Seventh St.
- A three-story, 49-unit building for people 55 and older.
- Cost: About $14 million.
Foundry Lofts, 509 SE Sixth St.
- A four-story, 46-unit building.
- Cost: About $15.5 million.
Goldfinch Apartments, 3404-3422 Ingersoll Ave.
- A three-story building with commercial space on the first level and 28 apartments on the upper floors.
- Cost: Almost $12.4 million.
Highland Park Odd Fellows, 200 Euclid Ave.
- The former International Order of Odd Fellows Fraternal Hall would be redeveloped into 10 apartments on the upper two floors and commercial space on the ground level.
- The city is purchasing the property for $500,000 and will negotiate the terms of the agreement with Housing for All Development in the coming months.
