Construction on a $2.4 million roundabout at Northwest Beaver Drive and Iowa 415 near Saylorville Lake will begin this spring.
Why it matters: Projections from the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) show the high-traffic roundabout will reduce delays and improve safety.
Catch up fast: The intersection is in an area of the metro that has seen significant growth in recent years.
At least 17 accidents have occurred at the four-way stop since 2020, according to data from the DOT.
Driving the news: Polk County Supervisors approved an agreement with the DOT last week, allowing for the construction of the single-lane roundabout.
The project will be entirely paid by the DOT, constructed in five stages with periods of detours.
What's next: Benjamin Adey, a DOT engineer, tells Axios construction will begin in the coming months and is projected to be completed by the end of the year.
