Iowans' life expectancy at birth as of 2021 was 77.7 years, ranking it among the top half of states in the nation, per a new CDC analysis.
By the numbers: Iowa ranked 16th and more than a year ahead of the U.S. overall expectancy of 76.4 years.
- Hawaii (79.9 years), Massachusetts (79.6) and Connecticut (79.2) have the longest.
- Mississippi (70.9 years), West Virginia (71.0) and Alabama (72.0) have the shortest.
