Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden recently completed installation of a $2.5M geothermal heating and cooling system, spokesperson Delaney Lynch tells Axios.
Why it matters: The old system was original to the 1979 facility and was inefficient.
Zoom in: The garden's new system uses pipes that take advantage of underground Earth temperatures to reduce heating and cooling costs.
Bythe numbers: The facility's electric usage dropped 35% between March 19 and April 17 compared to the same time last year.
