This Des Moines pub makes some of the best poutine

Angry Goldfish's poutine is an indulgent and savory treat that Axios Des Moines reporter Linh Ta orders every time she's at the southside restaurant.

  • She's eaten poutine in Montreal, Toronto and the Iowa State Fair, but she can confidently say Angry Goldfish's version is one of the best ever.

What makes it great: It's served hot enough to make the white cheddar curds ooey gooey. The gravy is thick with a hearty beef flavor, and bits of brisket take it from a cheap appetizer to an exceptional plate.

  • Plus: You can get a small order for $5.50, or a large for $8.

Open: 11am to midnight Mon-Thurs; 11am to 1am Fri-Sat; 11am to 10pm Sun.
