State of play: Hipcamp's best Colorado campsites this year venture beyond the obvious. The picks suggest travelers want campsites with personality, not just parking spots near trees.

Driving the news: The booking platform named 12 properties as Colorado's best in its 2026 Hipcamp Awards announced Tuesday.
Zoom in: The Lavender Farm Bed and Breakfast near Dolores puts guests in a handcrafted wagon among more than 2,500 lavender plants.
- Cliffs Edge, near Rockvale, offers furnished bell tents with wide-open Pikes Peak views.
- Shanahan Goat Ranch in Johnson Village pairs a large tent and Collegiate Peaks views with nearby dairy goats.
Between the lines: Tater's Black Canyon Campground near Crawford landed among Hipcamp's 15 "Best Van & Overland Spots in the U.S."
- Gold Nugget Tree House near Gold Hill earned national "Best Glamping" honors.
How it works: Hipcamp crunched a year's worth of bookings, ratings and reviews from more than 500,000 campsites nationwide.
- Properties needed at least 10 bookings, 10 distinct campers and 10 ratings, plus recommendation and expectations scores of at least 90%.
- Hipcamp weighted ratings based on evidence and grouped properties by size. The lists are unranked.
Reality check: Hipcamp grades only properties bookable on its platform, not every Colorado campground.
