Flashback: Amache Prowers, a Southern Cheyenne Tribe member, was the daughter of a prominent chief killed during the Sand Creek Massacre in 1864, city documents show.
She was known as an activist and a mediator, and testified before Congress for reparations related to the massacre. She was inducted into the Colorado Women's Hall of Fame in 2018.
