Inside Aspen's newest luxury hotel, the White Elephant

What to expect: The East Coast hotel brand's first alpine outpost is polished with world-class service but a quieter, snugger feel that makes it a true boutique.

• The inside of the 54-room hotel is more like a private mountain house with bespoke interiors, original art, patios and balconies and a small heated pool with two hot tubs.
• It's located catty-corner to Paepcke Park and a couple blocks removed from the Main Street crush.

The intrigue: White Elephant is known for its beach resorts in Nantucket, Massachusetts and Palm Beach, Florida, and brought its associated restaurant, Lola 41.

• The restaurant draws inspiration from the 41st parallel, reflecting its original location. The open dining room and bar offer enough variety to eat regularly.
• In the basement, you'll find the 41 Below speakeasy behind a wall of old-school skis.

• The hotel is very Aspen, but its location west of the downtown hubbub and amenities offers a great respite from the see-and-be-seen culture.
