The nation's culinary all-stars and dedicated foodies gathered over the weekend in Aspen for the Food & Wine Classic. We joined the fun.
The vibe: The festival is one of Aspen's biggest weekends of the year, with hundreds of visitors sipping rare wines and eating special bites.
Here are five tastings that stood out:
1. Mortadella sandwich from chef Ty Leon of Restaurant Olivia and Dear Emilia in Denver
This little gem showcased bread baked with Boulder-based Dry Storage's white Sonora flour. One of our first bites that left a lasting impression.
2. Truffle scallop crudo at Lola 41 in Aspen
The restaurant opened its fifth location in Aspen as part of the brand-new White Elephant hotel. The cool, thinly sliced scallops sat atop a salty, sweet yuzu truffle soy sauce that we threatened to lick from the bowl.
3. Brisket bearclaw from Annie's Bakery in Glenwood Springs
This flaky pastry had the perfect touch of sweet and savory with a drizzle of barbecue sauce and Boursin with a rich piece of meat.
4. Raspberry pastry from Dang Sweets in Avon
These were almost too beautiful to eat. The one-bite packed a punch of raspberry and chocolate balanced on a tiny crunchy cookie.
5. Kid Gloves cocktail by Death & Co. of Denver
The cocktail bar took over the Bad Harriet speakeasy, where we rubbed shoulders with Bravo's latest "Top Chef" winner, Rhoda Magbitang. We hope Death & Co. keeps making this tequila, mango, Aperol and cucumber delight.
