DIA debuts colorful, decorated paletero exhibition

Denver International Airport's latest public art pays homage to the humble paletero — street vendors who sell cold Mexican treats, often in the city's Latino neighborhoods.
The big picture: Seven colorful carts are on display for the "Westwood Paletero Stories" exhibition at the Ansbacher Hall, just before the A-Bridge. They're inspired by personal stories from local paleteros, per a statement from DIA.
- The exhibition debuted at DIA this month after being originally displayed last year at Re: Vision in the city's Westwood neighborhood.
Context: Seven artists — including Thomas "Detour" Evans and Danielle Seewalker — lent their talents to explore the everyday lives of street vendors, who are part of the cultural fabric in Latinos communities across the country.
- The exhibition was organized by local artist Juls Mendoza, Re: Vision and History Colorado.
Between the lines: A "paleta" is a Mexican ice pop, usually brightly colored and flavored with fruits.
