The number of metro Denver renters age 65 or older grew slightly over the past 10 years, a new analysis shows.
By the numbers: 10% of metro area renters fell in this age group in 2023, up about 2 percentage points from a decade earlier, according to a report based on Census data by rental listing site Point2Homes.
Why it matters: More older adults in Colorado and across the country are renting, trading ownership for flexibility.
Meanwhile, senior rental communities with luxury amenities are growing in popularity, drawn by 24-hour concierge, chauffeur services, and other swanky perks.
The big picture: Nationwide, the share of renters 65 or older rose to 13.4% in 2023 from 10.4% in 2013.
Context: Many older adults are on fixed incomes and stay in their homes because they're mortgage-free or have a low interest rate.
But others are renting for less upkeep, to be closer to family, or for walkable neighborhoods.
More are also putting off retirement and want the flexibility to move for a job.
