What to know about the King Soopers strike

• King Soopers is hiring temporary workers and limiting store hours to 7am-8pm with 30-minute daily closings for lunch at 1pm. Pharmacy hours also are shortened.

What they're saying: "King Soopers is committed to keeping all stores open during the work stoppage, with impacted locations running on temporary hours," the company said in a statement Wednesday.

• The company is also waiving delivery fees on orders over $35 starting today through Feb. 18.

Friction point: The UFCW Local 7 union wants the Kroger-owned chain to address inadequate staffing and opposes taking $8 million in retiree health benefits to pay for a wage increase.

• The union also alleges bad-faith negotiations and intimidation of its members.

The other side: The grocer offered $4.50 hourly wage hikes for top associates in a four-year contract, billed as its "last, best and final offer" and is demanding a vote on the terms.

What's next: The union is working to schedule strike votes for City Market stores.
