Mallory Swanson scored the decisive goal for the U.S. women's national team over Brazil Saturday to secure the team's first Olympic title since 2012.
The big picture: Swanson, of Highlands Ranch, was among the handful of athletes competing in Paris with Colorado ties who medaled this summer.
- Swanson was joined by teammates Lindsey Horan, of Golden, and Sophia Smith, of Windsor.
Zoom in: Valarie Allman, of Longmont, successfully defended her gold medal in discus to become the first American woman to win two golds in any field event.
- She told NBC Sports she was motivated this year by the people who helped her get to Paris: "I think that became my superpower, making it more than [just about] me."
Meanwhile, several other athletes earned medals, including:
- Sarah Hildebrandt, of Colorado Springs, who won a gold in freestyle wrestling in the 50kg division.
- Taylor Knibb, of Boulder, won a silver medal in the triathlon mixed relay.
- Brooke Raboutou, of Boulder, won a silver medal in sport climbing, the first American woman to medal in the sport.
- Haleigh Washington, of Colorado Springs, and Jordyn Poulter, of Aurora, won a silver medal in women's volleyball.
- Derrick White, of Parker, won a gold medal in men's basketball with Team USA.
