It's a split calendar for trick-or-treating this year, with some Central Ohio communities holding "beggar's night" on the Thursday before Halloween and some holding it on Oct. 31 itself.
Between the lines: Why isn't everyone on Halloween?
- Thursday communities are largely follow guidelines set by the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission, which has long recommended moving trick-or-treat to the Thursday before Halloween whenever Oct. 31 falls on a weekend.
That recommendation is largely about safety and conflicts.
- Weekends have football games, community events and more drivers on the road.
- Many Central Ohio communities aren't listening to MORPC this year and plan to have trick-or-treating on Halloween night.
