How Columbus hospitals stack up in national rankings

OSU Wexner Medical Center is the Columbus area's top hospital and the second-best in the state, per new national rankings.

Driving the news: U.S. News & World Report released its annual "Best Hospitals" lists this week, ranking the top centers regionally and nationwide.

• Hospitals are assessed based on factors like risk-adjusted mortality rates, patient experience and success getting patients back home.

Zoom in: The Wexner Center took the Columbus region's top spot, followed by OhioHealth's Riverside Methodist Hospital and Grant Medical Center.

• Wexner Medical Center also ranked No. 7 nationwide for rehabilitation and in the top 50 for cancer, neurology, pulmonology and rheumatology treatment.

Zoom out: The Cleveland Clinic once again made the prestigious Honor Roll, which recognizes the nation's top 20 hospitals.

Flashback: The publication's children's hospital rankings, released in the fall, had Nationwide Children's tied for No. 1 in the Midwest.
